OnLive Microconsole Coming by the End of 2010

OnLive’s Steve Perlman has said at E3 2010 that the Microconsole, the device that will allow consumers to play games over the net on their TVs, will be available before the end of 2010.

“When we get to what we call ‘cruising altitude’ — this is the bumpy takeoff — we can introduce the Microconsole. It’s a walk before you run sorta thing. Frankly, this is the quietest — well, it’s not the quietest, but it’s one of the quieter times of the year for gaming — the fourth quarter is the really big ramp up,” Perlman said. “So between now and the fourth quarter gives us an opportunity to sort of get our legs underneath us without being at huge risk of disappointing people.”

OnLive is a service that will allow subscribers to play games over an internet connection, with no need for expensive PC hardware or even games consoles (save this Microconsole). Of course, people are skeptical, but things seem to be rolling along. It’s a little situational, however, since only those of us who are able to afford hefty Internet connection fees for the faster services will be able to use the service. Until Internet connections worldwide get much better than they are now, I don’t think OnLive will truly take off.
