“”E3 is the place to see the best new games, products and ideas coming from the video game industry, so it made perfect sense to honor these incredibly successful and presciently innovative companies at the trade show where everybody brings their ‘A’ game.”
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is coming to the Nintendo DS on the 23rd of July this year, and to celebrate, here’s the trailer from Nintendo’s E3 pres conference showing off the game.
I’m no expert on the series, but it has a strong following, and the word on the street is that this one’s set to be just as great as the rest of the series. If you’re a big fan of the Dragon Quest series, why not let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments?
I would do so myself, but my opinion is just “it’s a JRPG.”

Twisted Metal, the game that David Jaffe lied about, is now coming to PS3. Despite David Jaffe lying about it, there are five new screenshots to gawp at, which show off just how much metal there will be to get twisted in the game.
Contrary to what David Jaffe said, Twisted Metal exists, as you can see in the gallery below. No matter how many lies David Jaffe told, I can confirm that Twisted Metal will be coming to the PS3 in 2011, and will feature many different game modes and vehicles. You might be thinking, “but David Jaffe said there wasn’t going to be a new Twisted Metal game!” Well, you are wrong- because David Jaffe lied!
First, what’s the same: the games. The new Xbox does not play any new games, and does not have any better game performance. No need to worry about being unable to play new games on your old 360. The new Xbox comes in a package that says

OnLive’s Steve Perlman has said at E3 2010 that the Microconsole, the device that will allow consumers to play games over the net on their TVs, will be available before the end of 2010.
“When we get to what we call ‘cruising altitude’ — this is the bumpy takeoff — we can introduce the Microconsole. It’s a walk before you run sorta thing. Frankly, this is the quietest — well, it’s not the quietest, but it’s one of the quieter times of the year for gaming — the fourth quarter is the really big ramp up,” Perlman said. “So between now and the fourth quarter gives us an opportunity to sort of get our legs underneath us without being at huge risk of disappointing people.”
OnLive is a service that will allow subscribers to play games over an internet connection, with no need for expensive PC hardware or even games consoles (save this Microconsole). Of course, people are skeptical, but things seem to be rolling along. It’s a little situational, however, since only those of us who are able to afford hefty Internet connection fees for the faster services will be able to use the service. Until Internet connections worldwide get much better than they are now, I don’t think OnLive will truly take off.
As a hardcore PC gamer it takes a lot for me to get hyped up about a console game (that is my hyped face), but Dead Rising does it. There is nothing quite as satisfying as mowing down hordes of brainless, undead zombies using anything you can imagine as a weapon. The original Dead Rising took the survival horror genre to a whole new level of awesome, and Dead Rising 2 has set out to prove that if it ain’t broke, Capcom is going to duct tape it and make it better anyway.
We went hands on with Dead Rising 2 at E3 2010, and are proud to present you within 10 minutes of mayhem, brought to you by Chuck Greene and the Ripten team.
So as you can see, it’s basically more of the same that you loved about Dead Rising 1, but with some added extras, namely all these combo weapons we’ve been hearing about, which you being made in the video.
You don’t even have to listen that closely to hear my excitement as I create things like the electro-rake and knife gloves, then use them to tear a bloody hole through fortune city like a fat kid through cake . . . very bloody undead cake.
I also noticed that the controls seem a bit tighter and the graphics seem a bit more polished. Also you may notice that Chuck models blood on his clothes, so if you get crazy enough, soon enough you will be red from head to toe. It all makes for a very satisfying and visceral zombie killing experience. So if you were a fan of Dead Rising 1, the sequel definitely does not disappoint. If you simply don’t care for this sort of thing, then all I can say is get outta my way, ‘cuz I’ve got zombies to kill!!
Dead Rising 2 drops August 31, 2010 . . . get ready to GET SOME!!
For the past few weeks, David Jaffe had been telling everyone through every possible means of communication that there would be no new Twisted Metal, nor was it something that was more than a desire of his to do in the future. I actually saw a smoke signal the other day that said “Not Working on Twisted Metal” and the signals of Gondor were lit in a pattern to tell us that Jaffe wouldn’t even be at E3. These were both lies and will most likely be viewed negatively when Jaffe gets to the afterlife and they attempt to balance his sins with a feather on an enormous scale.
Luckily for Jaffe, the gods use a pretty damn heavy feather, and luckily for us Jaffe was full of shit. Not only was Jaffe at E3 after all, but he felated our ocular nerves with a preview of the newest Twisted Metal game. Not only a preview, but actual gameplay to boot. While I was watching the beautiful carnage and letting the waves of nostalgia sweep over me like a baby wipe over a pornstar after filming, I couldn’t help but think that the game seemed really polished and complete for a title that, as far as we knew, didn’t even actually exist before that moment.
Today it was revealed why the game seemed so complete. David Jaffe, in an exchange with another user of the internet’s second favorite self-gratification service- Twitter, revealed that the newest Twisted Metal incarnation has been in development for roughly 18 months. This makes the fact nobody had any actual idea that it was happening even more impressive. In the 8th grade I couldn’t even keep it a secret that my best friend got to second base with Susan Murphy behind the bleachers even though she told Jeff Crandle she would go to the homecoming dance with him, so I couldn’t even imagine a large group of people developing one of the most well anticipated games of the current generation keeping that one quiet.
Of course, Jaffe could be bullshitting us again and the game could have only been started earlier that week or something, but hey, who am I to doubt the truthliness of Twitter? Tweeting your testimony in court will probably replace swearing on the bible soon anyway.
Taking a look at the Google Trends page shows us that the Nintendo 3DS has been the most popular search term when compared to the other big hardware announcements at this year’s E3 event.
As you can see from the chart above, the search terms for 3DS have been drastically more popular than Microsoft’s Kinect or Sony’s Playstation Move peripherals. Microsoft began stronger with their first-day Kinect event, but on the day of the Nintendo press conference where the 3DS was shown off, search terms shot to new heights- although in terms of news posts, the day which Microsoft had to themselves was capable of producing a greater volume of content. Playstation Move is a difficult one to check, as some people may search for just “Move”, but that’s indistinguishable from people searching for other things with the word “move”.
I think it goes to show that the 3DS has mass appeal, most likely stemming from the fact that the DS is already a massively popular device. In Japan, where the DS is overwhelmingly popular, search terms for the 3DS were drastically more common that in other countries; in the United States, for example, the term “Kinect” is much closer to the term “3DS” than in Japan. Something also to note is that the peak of traffic for both the Move and the 3DS is on the same day; perhaps Sony should have planned ahead for Nintendo overshadowing them.
As if you didn’t need any more proof that Nintendo won E3.
While it was already known that Media Molecule’s heavily anticipated burlap sack romp LittleBigPlanet 2 would support the PlayStation 3’s Move peripheral at launch, it has been confirmed they will be releasing a patch that applies that same functionality to the robust level creation toolset.
This new tool, called the Direct Seat, will be available at retail but will only support Sixaxis controls. That is, until Media Molecule releases a patch. Co-founder Alex Evans had this to say;
“So, right now, players can use the Direct Control Seat to decide how the Sixaxis affects your level, and we’d like to do the same thing for the Move. We have something like that internally, but it’s not fully built. We’re working with another studio to help us prototype out what Move could be, and those levels will be on the disc at launch, to show players what they’ll be able to build.”
While I may be one of those heartless and jaded hardcore gamers that have no real desire for anything related to motion sensing technology, the idea of user created Move-based content in LittleBigPlanet 2 is incredibly exciting. The pretentious artist in me absolutely reveled in watching some of the borderline genius that flowed forth from amateur designers in the original LittleBigPlanet, and with the sequel poised to give gamers even more control over their creations, allowing them to also create motion based content will only prove to push creativity even further. Kudos to all- unless you don’t like granola, than I guess Crunch bars to all.

The folks at Ubiart – Ubisoft’s collective of artists – have disclosed that Rayman Origins will be a full HD, episodic adventure, with plans to hopefully release the first “biiiiiig” episode this year.
Here’s a snippet from their website:
Why episodes?
To release one this year, and because big games take a long time to make, which in turns makes their price high.
With episodes, the price must be proportional to the size of the game, there is no way we are taking gamers for fools!
Episodes also let us imagine a longer and more developed saga than with a more

Apparently, I missed the announcement of Babysitting Mama, Majesco’s newest foray into the “___ Mama” series that started with the surprisingly-excellent Cooking Mama. On Thursday, Joystiq got a quick look at the game’s plush controller- a baby that you tuck the Wiimote inside of.
Majesco was very careful to say that the baby controller hasn’t been finalized, and could change in the future. However, it will still probably end up being a baby that you put a controller inside of. Majesco’s next game, Cleaning Mama, complete with a Windex bottle to hold your Wiimote, has not yet been announced, rumored, or (hopefully) even thought of.
The Xio from Forcetek is a harness that attaches to your arm and allows you to control games with wrist motions. Cue nostalgic memories of the Powerglove.
Joystiq’s Richard Mitchell got to try the device out with Tom Clancy’s HAWX. He just slapped it on his wrist, held his wrist out in front of him, and turned and twisted his arm to control his aircraft. Then he destroyed an enemy and crashed his plane into the ground. That’s one way to go out.
According to Forcetek, their ultimate goal is to use the technology in a full suit. Yes, I can get on board with that.
I’ll just warn you now, I’m going to try and Photoshop that lady into anything even remotely related to dancing.
The sequel to the Nintendo Wii’s critically lambasted license to print money, Just Dance (gonna be okay, da da doo doo) 2 has been confirmed for an October 14th release date.
While the first Just Dance (spin that record babe, da da doo doo) may have been hammered by reviewers with more precision and coordination than a ballroom dancing routine, it still went on to sell two million copies world wide, with a million of those copies being sold just in the UK. Now, grant it, the UK is the same place that encouraged musical compositions by Crazy Frog and Bob the Builder and also gave us, in order of awfulness, mad cow, Pete Doherty, salad cream, and my ex girlfriend. Regardless, one million copies of anything is a pretty big seller- especially when you consider Just Dance (gonna be okay, da-da-dance) didn’t benefit from hardly any positive word of mouth in the video game journalism world.
While (dance, dance, j-j-)Just Dance 2 would seem poised to repeat the same feat regardless of what anybody says about it in the press, it may face some incredibly stiff competition. Harmonix’s Dance Central for the Kinect is due out less than a month after Just Dance (gonna be okay, da da doo doo) 2 and, if I were to hazard a guess, will probably cause some trouble for the title. As much as I love kicking Microsoft and the Kinect while they are temporarily down, the one thing from the Kinect I saw at E3 that made me excited was Dance Central. With the Kinect’s focus on controlerless body movement, it would seem that it may have the edge in offering an accurate dancing simulator instead of a whole lot of ‘waggle.’ Although considering you would actually be dancing, calling it a simulator may be a bit off. One would think that Just Dance (spin that record babe, da da doo doo) 2 would have improved upon some of the control issues in the first title though, but it will have quite a bit to live up to in order to repeat it’s success. Guess we will find out when it ‘drops’ on October 14th.

While it may be rather gauche to use epic twice in a row, I think it’s justified when talking about the new controllers Disney & Performance Designed Products have announced. This week at E3, Nintendo showed off Disney’s Wii-exclusive, Epic Mickey, and Disney showed off its new nunchuk & controller stand that you can purchase and use with the game. The nunchuk is shaped as a paintbrush, while the controller stand/charger is shaped like one of the antagonists of the game. These peripherals are really cool, but not as cool as the TRON controllers they announced at the same time.
The controllers, in TRON fashion, are black-clad, with grips on the sides, and blue LEDs running up and down the controllers. And they look beautiful. It looks like the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers might be wired, but I still think they’re great. No price has been announced for the Epic Mickey-themed controllers, but the TRON controllers will all retail for $50… eventually.
If you’re in the market for a new controller, and don’t mind playing an extra $20 for style, then you should definitely check out one of these TRON controllers.

An wonderful looking game with beautiful colors and graphics in what seems to be a follow up to Mizuguchi’s Rez, but this time around you control the game with your hands. Something those thinking about buying Kinect should most definitely be keeping on their mind.
The shows host, Joel McHale (Web Soup, NBC’s Community), made his way to the stage to continue the keynote. He quickly went on to the next huge announcement about the new Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. They showed actual gameplay and it’s believed to have some sort of multiplayer or co-op mode. Dope indeed.

Some details pertaining to the upcoming 505 Games joint, Naughty Bear, have arrived. Specifically, the game’s four multiplayer modes have been revealed, and will feel mighty familiar to online shooter vets.
First is Assault, which is essentially capture the flag: one team defends, the other attacks. If the “Golden Unibear Statue” (flag) is not destroyed by the time the round’s two minutes are up, the defenders win. If it is destroyed–well, you get the picture.
Next up is Golden Oozy, a slight variant on the Juggernaut game archetype. Players will compete for possession of the Golden Oozy, an extremely powerful weapon with infinite ammo. The only way to score points in this mode is via kills with said Oozy.
Third we have Cake Walk, which is a lot like Oddball. Players tussle over the Glorious Golden Cupcake (I couldn’t make this up, folks), and he or she who holds said cupcake (at the penalty of losing offensive abilities and movement speed) for the longest, wins.
And last but not least there’s Jelly Wars, which is the only mode that I could not immediately shove into a box. A team of “normal” bears (does that even apply with this game?) attempts to gather Jellies scattered throughout the level to their mixing machine in order to “create the most awesome jelly ever.” Seems simple enough, but a fourth player will be put in control of the titular Naughty Bear to ensure that it isn’t by hiding jellies, setting traps and repeatedly murdering the opposing team.
Naughty Bear hits store shelves June 29th.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed whether or not Kinect ships with a game à la Wii Sports, but the motion peripheral’s Best Buy product page certainly suggests it does.
Listed under the rumored $149.99 price tag, Best Buy notes that the package ”includes Kinect for Xbox 360, power supply cable, Kinect game, manual and Wi-Fi extension cable.”
What game this actually is remains to be seen, though it would be unsurprising if it were the Rare-developed Kinect Sports introduced at the Microsoft E3 press conference last week.
More details are likely to be revealed at GamesCom in August.

Driver: San Fancisco is as official as can be; Ubisoft revealed and christened the title at their presser earlier today and released a not-too-shabby trailer to go with it.
The big trick the game has up its sleeve is a “shift” feature which, upon crashing or otherwise, allows the player to switch from car to car — that’s any car in the city — on the fly. A feature the creative heads at Ubisoft believe to be innovative and one that will supposedly add quite the twist to the online portion of the game.
No precise release dates yet but a ‘Q4 2010′ window has been offered up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac game.
Have a peek at the first screenshots in the gallery as well.
Dead Space 2 has a release date. Or rather, release dates.
The sequel to one of TVGB’s best loved games gets a North American release on Jan. 25 2011, with a European release on Jan. 28 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
During their E3 press event earlier today, EA also showed off demo for the game. It almost disappointed. Almost.
The opening environment, a church, had us worried. Open and relatively clean, it was utterly at odds with the decaying, screaming, claustrophobic space ship Ishimura from the original. Too sanitary, too open. The new, Gollum-like, cherubic Necromorphs didn’t help matters either. Like we said, worried.
Thankfully though, as Isaac wondered deeper and deeper into the church, Dead Space 2 regained its awesome.
The finale was the best bit. While looking out over “The Sprawl” - the game’s necromorph-infested city - Isaac is blinded by light, the windows shattered by some unknown attacker. Scrambling for safety, he rips a metal panel from the disintegrating floor and he throws himself in, falling several feet down and landing with a crunch.
Dazed, he hauls himself up and takes stock of his surroundings. A long dark corridor lays in front of him, the lights flickering ominously. But before Isaac can react he looks up to the hole he has just fallen through, just in time to see a giant, reptilian Necromorph emerge from the darkness, screaming, roaring just feet from his face.
In short, it was bloody brilliant. Do we really have to wait ’till next year!?
Another out-of-the-blue but quite welcome announcement from Ubisoft today is Rayman Origins. The game’s headed up by Beyond Good & Evil and Rayman creator Michel Ancel himself who we remain hopeful is alternating between this and another little project.
As can be seen from the trailer above, this one’s looking deliriously beautiful.
Apparently only five people have worked on the title; a testament to Ubisoft’s UbiArts toolkit, according to CEO Yves Guillemot who introduced the game at the company’s press conference earlier today.
No dates or other specifics yet.
